Bee you need a tool rest for that for you to safely turn that is not really intended for turning much better if you build a jib for the router IMO;).

I've done similar before. I've also used a corded drill using a lag screw for a tailstock. There is a "related" instructable showing how to build a lathe and there are actually a lot more on the web.
For simple stuff, a drill press lathe should do. A toolrest is not used in this case bro because files, rasps, and sandpaper is used instead of knives. Shouldn't be hard to setup a toolrest however I think holding a knife would be precarious as well rather bad for the drill.
