Hi Everyone!

I've been scouring the internet over the weekend in search of a good used router, and I'm on a very tight budget. Obviously these conditions are usually mutually exclusive.

Yesterday I found an ad for an old Elu router online. Maybe some of you clicked on it or checked it out for yourself. It came with a bunch of rusty bits (stored in a plastic bag!) and no edge guide, but at least it's got a modest-yet-capable 1600W motor, got a compatible voltage (240V), and was pretty cheap, all things considered, so I took a leap of faith and picked it up.

This is my first router, so I'm trying to learn everything I can about it before I put it to work. From what I understand it's similar to the DeWalt 624 and 625, so I downloaded the manuals for those. Now I'm looking for an edge guide (DW6913) or plans/materials to make my own. Since it has no soft start or variable speed, I'm going to have to be VERY careful in using it.

As of yesterday, I'm still in the process of cleaning the router and bits, and I'm running out of WD40.

Hope you can see the pics I've posted.

hi randy!

the router looks fine and i can still see them being used in a feature work in wood magazines published somewhere in 2007-2008 coz i bet that machine was carefully built to last.

had i known that you were looking for a router, i could have pm'd you about my d-handle never been used (well a test drive actually) makita 3600.

anyhow...it is still for sale.

Re: First Router (Elu MOF177)

so you got the ELU from the sulit guy from Pampanga. ELU makes some of the finest routers that became the basis of the existing routers we have today. and Yes, not only is Dewalt similar to it, it is made to based on ELU. as well as other brands like Bosch and Makita. I hope it runs well as it is a sturdy machine and I myself wanted it...
congrats on the new toy... one thing I can say is... your growing very fast :p (which is good) but I hope you know how to use what you have before moving on to the next tool. that way you can get the mos out of them...
cheers
