@ timber
would you know if rabbeting planes are available at recto? Bull nosed would be good. Either a metal or wooden plane will be fine (it's just for trimming jambs, light use only).

Also, I saw a wood handplane at a sash shop, it had this blue blade and it cut very very well. Would you know what that blade is called and where to find it?

@ Zepol

Maybe that blade is made out from Hacksaw blade, Blu-mol brand. they cut and remove the teeth by grinding.

Zepol, Stanley and Groz fillister and rabbeting handplanes are available locally, these are specific to what you are looking for... Panda carries the Groz brand and are priced very reasonable.

the blue blade you are after will cost more than the handplane since the ones used are scraps. new blades with considerable thickness are quite expensive.

Hey bro rpga4433,

Yes bro you will still need to have some hand planers, maybe of various sizes, the ELECTRIC PLANER is more for shall we say larger chunks of timber or wood, its nice having one too, makes planing faster but for detailing its great having the hand held planers. :p

Pag kinakatam mo na yung surface ng wood, try doing it slowly and listen to it .Llisten to how sharp the blade of your planer do the job, napaka sarap sa pandinig and when you do the planing yourself try experiencing the feel of the smoothness of the wood surface, be a part of the wood and for sure you will enjoy the result of your hand planing. :cool01: 😀

Re: Handplanes thread....... show what you have.

Upon picking this up, Timb asked me why i didn't go for a veritas instead, to which i replied that my mind said go for the leevalley veritas, but my heart was all for the LN. I mean just look at the pic above- it's got sex appeal. ...and then timb confessed how he's lusting for a svelte and leggy no.7 LN jointer 😀 (You got a jointer already don't you timb?)

The thing looked flat and squared to the sides (will check it with a square when i get home but i know it wouldn't be necessary.) The japanning is impeccable- it's beyond criticism. Personally would have preferred rosewood knob/totes (just like jarod's in the first page,) but it didn't take me long to appreciate the lighter, but stilll warm color of cherry. Whatever they used as finish- i like it a lot! It has a bit of sheen but very thin that it still felt natural in the hand.

The screw on top of the tote sticks out a bit though. And the screw on the bottom has a shallow screw slot- maybe the guy who shined it up spent a lil too much time on the buffer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gQOVHf0bWI

A Low Angle plane is simple- a thick blade which beds directly to the body, no chipbreaker. The mouth is very easy to adjust. The blade adjuster screw has about a quarter of a turn of backlash.

=====
Will post a longterm report in a few months... am happy that i got a plane that's tuned to a high degree out of the box, and would be good for shooting board duty. Got a feeling that this will be my go to plane when i make a workbench.

Special thanks to Timb for making this happen btw.
