Re: Handplanes thread....... show what you have.

It appears that the LV is the more logical choice. It's cheaper by a bit, it has set screws to align the blade, blade's wider by 1/4", some say the casting is thicker...

...it's just the LN for me =). I found myself admiring the thing for about 45 minutes, wiping parts that i've touched with my greasy paws with kleenex when i brought it home. It just has that... as the french-speaking canadians would say... je ne sais quoi.

Good thing i never bought a digital camera, camphone picture quality is getting more and more decent, I personally would get more enjoyment out of using this plane that never gets obsolete than a digicam...

===
Funny, i was watching a docu in youtube about a cremonese violin maker- 5th generation or whatever. The tv narrator was harping on how traditional the luthiers were, with technique and tools that never changed since the time of guarneri or stradivarius. On the tool tray, i spied a LN (i.e. american) bronze block plane! Hah!

Don't get me wrong, But I really prefer the LN square sides in more way than one. But with a good deal.... I just couldn't let it pass.

@timber

Most of the s4s i get is not straight, and yes it is undersized, but we manage. If you think s4s is undersized, you should see it after i try to plane it flat, sobra nang nipis hehe.

Actually, i have a feeling a lot of so called undersized wood is mislabled - pero exacto sa metric size. Like plywood, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 plywood are all undersized, but if you measure them sa metric, they all come out to a round number (.5, .6, .7 iirc). Then there was the time when i had to return a delivery of so called 8' studs that turned out to be 204cm. I supposed that standard sizes are different in other countries.

Keen Kutter with single letter designation (ie K4,K5,..) was made by Stanley, those with two letter designation (KK5,KK6..) was made by Sargent and other company.

are are included when you buy a handplane, and like bigfoot said, blades can be bought as extras. Lever caps and other parts are not readily available though but can aslo be orderd from the US site of Stanley.
