Re: Handplanes thread....... show what you have.
Been using my two Mujingfangs (wooden hand planes) and happy with them.
Recently, I decided to exhume my ancient Stanley #4 which was improperly kept in the bowels of my tool cabinet. It was grimy and rusty; I had to clean it with some kerosene. Then, since the bottom was far from flat, ran it on an inverted belt sander. Then improvised this sandpapers-on glass.
After hours of sanding, this is how the bottom looked like: still pitted and uneven.
I know, I should be lashed 39 times for my neglect.
Ran the iron and chipbreaker on my 1000 and 6000 grit waterstones.
Somehow, it works acceptably well now. Still not perfect but I'm now shaving me some "bacon".
Re: Handplanes thread....... show what you have.
Ding, get a steel rule and check the bottom for flatness, from experience flattening the soles on glass and sandpaper always result to a convex sole and will allow you to cut bacons but not full widths...

Thanks, Timber. I noticed nga that my bacons are bacon strips, not full ham!
But how do I flatten them perfectly then?

I remember posting a process for flattening handplane soles, maybe you can search it.... took me a while to flatten my previous no.7 which Jonathan now owns...
