:welcome: to PHM migs.

Maybe it would be easier if you could share more on what you intend to do so the others may help you better in choosing your router.

Re: help in purchasing a new router

You may not necessarily need a router in building cabinets and drawers. Maybe you can be more specific in your needs, else you might become a tool collector like some of us here. 😀

Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.

Re: help in purchasing a new router

talaga tong mga mamang to, pinahirapan ba yong totoy....:D 😀 😀

i'll go for the plunge...

since most my work consist mostly of grooves, mortising and sometimes dadoing .

my 3 hp plunge router does the job well consistently, in and out of the RT.

in cabinet making i think you do trimmings most of the time, a laminate trimmer will do the job just fine.

Re: help in purchasing a new router

id like to ask if you already have a circular saw.

if you're going to build cabinets and drawers using mdf, 18mm plywood or 18mm plyboard then you have to have a CS.

if its solid wood then its a different story.

yes id be ok with a laminate trimmer..a bosch gmr1 may suffice..

in fact the gmr1 has relieved my 1 1/4 HP plunge router off the bench since.

one advice that wont transform you into becoming a tool collector...buy a plunge router, with variable speed at least 2 1/4 HP (as minimum specs) and put it on a dedicated table..then start your bit collecting rather than router collecting.:pepsi:

btw..do you already have an OLD router?

Re: help in purchasing a new router

I agree with the previous comments re clearly defining what you need first. When building a cabinet, a router is probably one of the last things I'd get after a saw (circular, table, chop), jigsaw, planer...

But here's a useful thread if you really need one:

will try to build a shoe rack this weekend as my next project

need the router for making dadoes and rabbet. pang trim na rin ng edge.

around 6k ang budget ..dont want to spend too much muna dito sa bagong hobby..not yet sure baka ningas kugon lang ako dito WW tulad ng mga previous hobby hehehe

re: sa skill router thread

parang mas ok pa yung bosch over skil ? kung available na locally yung router table and lift ng bosch..just in case lang na maging serious sa WW hehe

magkano po yung bosch 1617? yun ba yung Model 1617EVSPK na pwedeng fixed base and plunge?

Bosch 1617EVSPK - USD 192.00 sa AMazon. Maybe Timber can order it for you. The fixed base can be attached the router table, and micro adjust from the top of the table.

Re: help in purchasing a new router

would you believe that you can make dadoes and grooves with your circular saw and an edge guide? You can clean them pristine if you have chisels too...
I suggest you use your imagination and the tools you have can be used for so much more....
