Re: jet jts10 first impressions
this is an idea of a new top i want to make
but with a better fence system
it looks simple enough. lncc's looks kinda hard to replicate hehehe i wanna keep my tool accessories a 2 hour job

Huh? Mine doesn't even have slots and a new fence is still in the TODO list which is pretty long by the way.
Re: jet jts10 first impressions
a t-square design for the back side of the fence could make the fence easier to square to the blade as long as the table is square to it too...

Re: jet jts10 first impressions
so sorry to everyone where i have been blabbing about this ts on three other threads.
going back to the surface problems i MIGHT grab an angle grinder and grind the raised portion.
Unless of course i have a GIANT sheet of grit 60 sand paper that i can lay on an extremely rigid and flat surface. Plop my TS on it, up side down, so the ts surface is sitting on the sand paper. Then start pushing my ts back and forth until the surface is FLAT!!! FLAAAAAT! ... orororor find someone with a blanchard machine...:P JayL baka meron ka nun?
something like this http://www.precisiongrinding.com/grinding.htm

Re: jet jts10 first impressions
You could take it to a machine shop with a big milling machine or better yet with a surface grinder. If you want to grind it yourself manually the way to do it is to take a slab of thick glass or granite, glue some abrasive paper to it then grind away. You don't need this I'd just like to share that micron flatness in machine tools is actually achieved by hand scrapping with carbide scrapers. This is how we used to restore old machine tools in my previous company.
I think you are on the right track to just replace the top with a piece of plywood.
Re: jet jts10 first impressions
so..... my idead of having the ts sitting on its surface on an abrasive sheet on a reference flat isnt so out of this world after all 🙂
carbide scrapers.... can i just mill wit with a friggin router and sacrifice ten bits.... wait ten bits will cost about 1/3 of my saw!!! hahaha
yeah plywood top , mdf top in my case would be best
Re: jet jts10 first impressions
I have an idea, why don't you buy long sheets of sandpaper (just like what they use on skateboards) to create a giant sandpaper that is bigger than your TS' area and stick it to a leveled floor.
Now invert your TS' table and stick that to a floor polisher and randomly move it in circles You now have a giant DIY random orbital sanding machine! Big enough to sand your table and flat enough since the sander is on the floor!
What a great idea!!!
Ok I'll leave now before someone bans me from this forum.
Re: jet jts10 first impressions
hahahah the only flat floor i have is... INSIDE THE HOUSE... hmmmm maybe my wife wont notice 🙂
the only problem is that the table top CANT be disassemble.. i tried 🙁 so instead i will do it , motor and kitchen sink attached hahahah ( i took your suggestion seriously by the way ehhehe)
Re: jet jts10 first impressions
Use a router? It would be just like that worktable top flattening procedure but nah there are a lot of better ways. Just do it in wood Bee is what I'd recommend.
Really you can't remove the top?
Re: jet jts10 first impressions
nope i cant. I tried before. the saw is bolted on the top by a plate that extends in the inner part and outer part ( inner means inside the housing) there are bolts that i cant seem to reach.
i could try looking at it again on sunday and see what i can do
Re: jet jts10 first impressions
Oh that just means there is a sequence you have to discover. Tools are often designed like this.
Re: jet jts10 first impressions
actually i lied about it not being able to be dismantled (rather i forgot)
I have to first dissassemble the powerswitch box then detach the rod that adjusts the blade height, then i can access the screws that bolt the footing of the saw to the table top
i dont know when i will do this though...
could i just run a belt sander on the table top ? 🙂 pa tingi tingi tira, cguro hindi naman sosobrahan ang kain sa bakal
Re: jet jts10 first impressions
tiis tiis tiis
i am contemplating on getting the jet jts-315s and dedicate that for ripping while my other saw is dedicated to cross cutting? total cost is ==== 15,800+ 9,800 = 25,600......huhuhu
hows that sound? sayang diba? hehehhe
