Re: jointer plane question

As long as the sandpaper has been pressed/trained to be flat and not curling, I have never bothered to glue or even tape the sandpaper to the glass. So no need to 'replace' sandpaper, and only one piece of glass is needed, instead of several for the different grits.

It seems to work anyway. Am I missing something.

I don't think so. I also don't glue the sandpaper but sometimes I tape the edges to the glass. My glass is a bit wide so I can tape several grits in a row. It's just more convenient.

The final run on buffing machine is what makes the difference in my opinion. I final hone the blade cutting edge from the trailing side of the buffer cloth using green colored clay polish. . You can't see it from the pics but notice the buffer orientation , it is reversed ( the on off switch is at the back side). Other ways may also be available for this ( like some honing leather belts ) but this is what I have so I use it..
