I need to add a good hacksaw to my welding tools. The current one I have flexes too much and cutting accuracy is really bad.

Please let me know if you spot some in the market.

I prefer something like these.

http://www.amazon.com/Bahco-325-Premium-Ergonomic-Hacksaw/dp/B0002890YW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1270742074&sr=8-1

or

The newer Lenox Hacksaws are now Made in China but would love a New Old Stock saw ( US Made ).

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Re: Looking for a good Hacksaw

I saw a composite hacksaw at Handyman I think it was. Me I'm lazy so I use a chop saw ... wasteful too. How about a MIC power hacksaw? You might also consider a surplus Japanese power hacksaw.

Re: Looking for a good Hacksaw

It will be for times when a chop saw won't cut the job.

I've never seen a power hack saw. Is it a good tool?

tks

Re: Looking for a good Hacksaw

Most machineshops have a power hacksaw. In the machine shop I used to oversee, this was one of the machines always working. They are used to cut all sorts of bar stock, tubes and pipes. Not very expensive IIRC. Just like a manual hacksaw, they are slow. So after setting the workpiece, the operator normally goes and does something else. They shutoff automatically once done.

Re: Looking for a good Hacksaw

I have seen:

  • Bahco SE-15-24 and SE-15-30 bowsaws at a hardware store in province
  • Stanley 15-166 'high tension industrial frame' hacksaw at a Handyman
  • (?) Nicholson equivalent at a Handyman (?)

I don't know how any of the above compare in flex or accuracy to the non-'high tension', non-'industrial' Stanley hacksaw (e.g., 15-265).

Re: Looking for a good Hacksaw

I could only find the basic Bahco hacksaw models in the market. Not good enough for the application I need it.

However I found this Starrett K-145 model. The blade can be tensioned up to 28,000 psi. Its spring loaded and adjustable through a lever at the top portion of the handle. Good overall weight and balance. Very rigid frame which does not flex. Blade can be installed at 90 or 45 degrees.

It does not have an extra blade storage compartment. 🙁

Tip : Wipe your bi metal blades w/ paraffin or candle wax before use for a smoother blade glide.

Re: Looking for a good Hacksaw

Yale Hardware @ Recto. 1.1K . Cheaper compared to the US Market which would cost around 30+ bucks including shipping to any of the 48 states.

Made in Brazil. Starrett had farmed out most of the blade and saw frame manufacturing there.

I had been to Hans Tools at Shangrila for the first time the other day. Lots of tools but only for viewing. Binondo area is better. Prices are a lot lot lower. Of course one has to invest some time roaming there to really know the place.

Re: Looking for a good Hacksaw

I just saw this today. RS do sell Bahco hacksaw frames but I doubt if I would pay the price they are asking P2,958 + Vat. That same saw is around $43 w/ shipping in the US.
