that little cat came home today and dragged this baby home...

I once said that this is the best router in the planet. well, I was wrong. it is the best router in the universe. lol.

having gone thru 5 routers, everything about this router is great. with 3hp, it can go thru hardwoods without a bump... known worldwide as a bigman's router for its weight (heavy), it is its weight that gives it balance. the ON-Off switch (located near the right hand handle has a clear indicators of the switch being in ON or Off position. very important safetywise. I once plugged a router that I though was Off, it started running around and scared the s*** out of me.

Re: Makita 3612C VS router

once started, you would feel and love the soft start feature. I have several soft start tools and never this nice. Variable speed...? well once people find out the price difference between a variable spped and a fixed speed router, they learn that they don't need a variable speed. hahaha. having variable speed gives better control in handling, makes you burn your work less if not eliminate it and give you the option to use those 3" diameter bits without praying beforehand.

the plunge lock mechanism is well built and locks with a light touch...

the plunge action is second to none, similar to a highend mountain bike fork. silky smooth and plush.

comes with the usual add ons like the edge guide and 1/2"straight router bit, lock wrenches and some extra collets to accept smaller shank bits.

Re: Makita 3612C VS router

I purchased an adapter for porter-cable template bushings (which the cat forgot) that accepts the elliptical template bushing (e-bush) for my Leigh super jig.

and mounts solid on the base.

tried freehand routing with it and I can tell you, this is the router to have...

Reminds me of when I was lusting for one of these.

I did lust for it about 6 months before I bought it. though the price is a deterring factor, the performance and quality should outweigh it.

for the router table, No. but for anything else, rather everything else, Yes. Construction, motor, soft start and plunge action puts it in a league of its own. If I find a time to drop by, I will bring it so you can try.
I reckon that the soft start of your Bosch doesn't even come close...

For the price Makita is asking for it it's expected to be a top notch tool.

Do you feel any reverse kick when shutting down?

Re: Makita 3612C VS router

I just thought I'ld post the spring removal here so it can be archived on the correct thread.

How to remove the plunge spring for router table use:
1. remove the turn knob for depth adjustments, make sure the base is flat on the table.

2. pull router motor leaving the base on the table.

3. remove the springs (both) or as preferred. and put the motor back and install the adjustment knob.

Re: Makita 3612C VS router

and here is the correct way to mount the template guides for the router.

it will sit flush with the base and hold the template securely.

getting a third party template guide is advisable since Mayon doesn't have any set, and if the did the price of the set is almost the same as the price of a piece that Mayon sells. Get them online abroad...

this morning although with a mild fever was so excited to remove the plunge springs..i forgot your rule no.1! i removed the depth adjustment knob while the router is still attached to the plate from beneath...bumagsak sa kamay ko yung motor! ooops...and there i have them the springs..

Re: Makita 3612C VS router

after searching the dust nozzle for the 3612C router here and in Hong Kong, Singapore and elsewhere. and finally getting an answer that the item is no longer available in the US.
well that doesn't stop me until I find one. and after searching and calling everywhere I found two in the US... I ordered both thinking that someone else would want one too...
