I recently bought a Maktec m360 and a rousseau base plate. What's the best way to mount the router to the base plate? Is there a more precise way than "eyeballing" it as the instructions tell me? Hope you can give me a better way if there is such.

Here's a picture of the router and plate

Re: Mounting router to base plate

remove the base plate of your router and tape it to the plate (center by eye would be fine) then drill away...

click my signature and it will take you there........

Re: Mounting router to base plate

yeah, ganun nalang nga. i'm just afraid to drill the plate. i'll probably wait till i get a drill press. by the way, how do i make sure that the drill bit is on the center of the hole?

when i drilled my first router plate same as yours, i just maintained a "90 degree feel" hehe.

phenolic plates are mildly brittle.make sure it rests on a piece of plywood and drill away..

do you have a countersinking bit?

i need to buy one. the manual says 82 degrees countersink bit. what's the size pala of the drill bit you used?

i bought this router cuz its the one that fits my budget. it's my first so i have nothing to compare it to. it seems well built. the router base has no play and the plunge action is smooth. i'll try to make a review soon.

Re: Mounting router to base plate

If the drill bit is somewhat 'loose' inside the guide hole and you do not want to just eyeball, one way would be to first use a larger bit (large enough to fill the hole) to scratch the surface. The shallow excavation of the larger bit would then be the guide for the smaller bit.

I don't remember ever being in a situation when I felt compelled to do this though.

Doing this probably makes sense only if you bother to accurately position/center the base plate. If you only eyeball base plate position, might as well eyeball drill bit position, to be consistent in method? (Personally, I would ... try to be consistent.)

Re: Mounting router to base plate

affix the original sub base to a piece of 1/2" plywood (or a scrap laminate flooring) using double sided tape..sparingly though...then drill from the openings of the original base..remove the sub base and use the plywood's holes to drill on the rosseau plate...

of course the drill diameter will match the original screws.
visit Binondo in your spare time and buy a countersinking bit...the phenolic plate is expensive enough to require one.

a drill press is necessary but you can do without one with near perfect results.

good luck!

i got the necessary bits that i'd use to mount the plate to the router. i used your advice on a test piece and its perfect. i made a drill guide that i'll use when i'm actually drilling the plate. thanks

Tom i'll try to mount it na

Re: Mounting router to base plate

got to mount my router on the plate today. did this by making a copy of the insert plate then drilling a hole in the middle. i used this with the drill guide that i made yesterday. i think this is much more precise than eyeballing it. seems a good fit.

now all i need is a table. kaso walang nagbebenta ng mdf sa area ko, kung meron man wala naman delivery. kung may alam kayo near katipunan paki PM naman ako or post it here. thanks

Re: Mounting router to base plate

@crazyboi, meron sa classifieds na binebentang mdf. Retaso lang pero big enough for RT, I think. P20 lang per piece.
