thanks Jay, this project is my second work bench. the first was a gamble so I used cheap wood. with the lessons learned on the first I decided to go for this. what made it easy was the fact that I have a router table. and yes, it was a router table that came first.

Where did you get the wood and the vise hardware?

Did you follow or modify from a published plan, or design it yourself from scratch?

wood, I got from a local sawmill in paranaque, vice I got from Binondo... yes, I modified a published plan from shopnotes...

when you have time, visit me and we'll go tool hunting. of course, I know where most of them hide... lol.
the wb measures 26" width x 49" length x 34" tall, just enough to fill my space and tall enough so I don't lean down ( a common gauge is wrist high)...

not that you only knew where is the best store for tools but also for food... yummy Chinese foods...lol

yes! if your bench is to high, wrist and shoulder suffer most of the load and its kinda nakakangawit. but if its too low, back ache strike. that's why, its should design for your preferences. wanted to build one also but my timber isn't ready yet.(air drying)

Question:

why most workbench is not using a whole slab of wood? why should it be a stack of wood? is there a theory there that if using a slab it might bend or wrap?(imo)

slab wood would be ok, but would be prone to bigger changes when temp changes, this in turn will tend to warp, twist or worse crack. using 2 x 4's and arranging them will produce less movement. thus making it better. it would also be easier to repair when something damages it...

to be honest, I don't really know wood availability in our country, everybody classifies them as "tanguille". I just choose from whatever stock is available, the hardwoods or the heavier ones. just avoid wild grains and choose the straighter ones. there several stores in Makati that sells good wood, you just have to be picky, or pick me up sometime and I'll escort you to Paranaque, where we can choose wood from a lumberyard...

Great workbench, that is, for carpentry.

What about an average workbench for the typical hobbyist/craftsman. Anybody with some
good workable plans ?

Am in the process of making an alternate workshop in another part of my house,
and in a previous thread, I also am looking for a perforated lawanit board (pegboard),
from which to hang all my tools in front of the workbench !!

thanks Jonathan, but it will be nothing fancy. same lang as what I have at home... maybe a bit longer lang, and thicker...
