I'm ordering a new TS blade for my 4100. Which one of the two Freud blades would be a better choice. I work mostly on plywood but would want to try some hardwoods at a later time. My budget is $40 and both blades fall in that range. Please help me choose one.

Re: Need a new TS blade

the Diablo series are the lower end models of Freud iirc, so getting the LU86R010 I think is the wise choice although it isn't designed for sheet goods.

only higher end blades like the P410 or WWII will make excellent cuts on both solid and ply goods.

you can check out LU84R011(although it costs around $60) should work better for your needs.

Re: Need a new TS blade

Is it just me or ...... I can't find info on Diablo blades at the Freud website, only Industrial blades.

http://www.freudtools.com/c-2-saw-blades.aspx

I need the recommended Use and Cut Quality chart for the Diablo D1050X.

If the cut quality is same as LU84R011 less more durability then it would be fine by me. I'm just an amateur woodworker and don't cut that much wood.

If not then looks like I'll go with the $60 LU84R011. Timb is right. Since I work with plwood I need it to perform well on this material.

P410 is already too thick for my blood.

Re: Need a new TS blade

I just got D1050X instead of industrial but haven't had time to try it yet.

Considering D1060X for dedicated use on compound miter saw and it is less than $40.

For all-around in the industrial line (which I opted not to get for now), I would try to decipher what on earth is the difference between "general purpose" (86) and "combination" (83 and 84). 83 and 84 look like the counterparts of D1050X, but 83 is cheaper at just slightly over $40.

Considering 87 for dedicated ripping and it is a hair less than $40. I don't know how meaningful those bar graphs are, haven't paid attention to them, but if you go by the cute graphs, this ripping blade claims to be very 'good' on plywood ... as good as it crosscuts. Now what on earth does that mean.

I suspect that as long as there is a bar and not 'Not recommended', any differences would be beyond my ability to detect or to care about, and any of these blades would be significantly better than anything I am using right now.

Re: Need a new TS blade

You're right. This is just around $10 more than the Diablo D1050X.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00020JOAA/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

It looks the same like the D1050X so might be the industrial counterpart of the Diablo.

http://www.freudtools.com/p-45-thin-kerf-combinationbr-nbsp.aspx

Amazon and Freud don't have exactly the same charts for Recommended Use and Cut.
Notice the plywood part closely.

Re: Need a new TS blade

Looks like this LU83R010 is a better choice than the D1050X. That is if Industrial really means that much. It's only $10 more at $45.20 compared to the Diablo.

If no other suggestions then this price range is good to me also.

This other one below looks good also but with only 24 teeth.LU87R010

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000225UH/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Does it really make any difference if it's only 24. The chart says its good for plywood.

Thanks Guad for the reply.

I read somewhere that the difference between the Diablo and the Industrial blades is that the latter has more carbide for more resharpening. Do we actually have resharpening services available locally?:)

Yes, Jay we do have resharpening services, Edward gave me the contact details... hopefully I can find it when I need it. so far I'm still using the original blade on my 4100 and still works great...

Likewise my Bosch stock blade is still OK plus I have the Craftsman 40 teeth from the CM MS .

For now I really want a Thin Kerf blade to see if the saw performs better and reduce the load on the motor. Probably less dust flying around too.

Glad to know there is resharpening service available locally.

1. thin kerf is a must for our universal motor powered 4100.
2. it will perform better having the thin kerf blades.
3. the bosch stock blade is still Ok when i demoted it to the shelf and upgraded the 4100 with a 24 teeth ripping diablo blade.
4.but...still plenty of sawdusts! hehe.

i might as well copy the acrylic dust hood made by timber or make a big acrylic dust shroud that i can lower down whenever i need it.i just needed some time to use the sketch up.

make one jay and i will just copy..hehe

Re: Need a new TS blade

I believe with a thin kerf blade, the riving knife has to be realigned, not even sure if you can use it with a thin kerf... Doc, you're using a thin kerf?
