Re: please help on table saw purchase

That could be the best bet for now unless you could find local alternatives such as Armand's TS. Just make sure to get one that suits your preference and needs.

Btw: if opt for the Bosch 4100, go for the new one as there isn't really much to save from the reconditioned ones (just a couple of $) so might as well get a new one with complete accessories.

Re: please help on table saw purchase

So gentlemen, a Bosch 4100 should it be?

well I could recommend an Altendorf if you like but that would more or less cost around 40 times the 4100. but its a dang good tablesaw 😀 and oh the accesorries for it could cost 10 time the cost of a 4100 also, but its a lovely saw. Hafele' uses one...

Re: please help on table saw purchase

did ripping using my Maktec circular saw (with fence/guide). Surprisingly, I ripped through some 24foot timber easily. It's just punishment on the knees so I plan to use some kneepads later.

So gentlemen, a Bosch 4100 should it be?

Sounds like a temporary worktable made of say 8 ft lumber or plywood or mdf placed on sawhorses end to end, to total 24 ft, will fix the knee issue. (I happen to have a such a setup now using laminated mdf as tabletop, to work on 16 ft sections of polycarbonate.)

Bosch 4100 seems to be at the value/price sweet spot for some or many, but also consider other well-reviewed saws:
DeWalt DW745
Grizzly table saws, 110/220 V or 220 V (see reviews outside of Amazon)
Powermatic, 115/230 V
Ridgid R4510

Re: please help on table saw purchase

Sounds like a temporary worktable made of three pieces of 8' lumber or plywood or mdf placed end to end on sawhorses will fix the knee issue. (I happen to have a setup now using laminated mdf, to work on 16' sections of polycarbonate.)

Bosch 4100 seems to be at the value/price sweet spot for some or many, but also consider other well-reviewed saws:
DeWalt DW745
Grizzly table saws, 110/220 V or 220 V (see reviews outside of Amazon)
Powermatic, 115/230 V
Ridgid R4510

among the portables, the dewalt DW745 is said to have the nicest fence around, the RidgidR4510 is the newest amongst the portables and has had and having recalls up to this time that it was stopped for a while. But the 4100 is the more stable platform among them. for portability, these are the ones to choose from, contractor grade yan.
now while grizzly and powermatic has portables too, they are not as portable as the previous 3 but the models higher than contractor saws starting with hybrid one is where the shine best...
Aaaargh! My Ryobi TS just died
aww! you did that on purpose! hehe so you have now a valid reason to get a new TS!:p

the 4100 has more oomph than the skilsaw...the 4100 has 4HP max...

and the lighter duty skilsaw cannot accept stack dado blades.

i dont know if Bosch will make a new model from the 4100 series though.

He-he. Over lunch, was doing some soul-searching: Did I subconciously destroy my TS to justify a new one?

Whatever. Thanks, guys for the advice. Don't have the time to look at the others (deWalt, Ridgid, etc) and have read much about the Bosch so will go fot it. Timber, will probably get the Altendorf, and also give you one for Christmas, when I win the lotto.

Now, if I have time, will tinker some more with the dead Ryobi TS. Problem is electical, I think, so it should be easy to fix, unless it's the motor. No, it's not the reset/fuse, in case any one of you are thinking that may be it. Ran my tester on it. The power switch has 6 contacts and, fumbled through it but, as far as I can tell, looks ok. But ,my tests tests were all on continuity. Don't have the courage to run AC tests on my cheap Sunwah (cheap knockoff of Sanwa). Ram the saw overtime; resets often when it overheats; my bet is that i burned out the damn thing.

Re: please help on table saw purchase

Good suggestion.

Unfortunately, I can't get inside the motor. The screws are "frozen". Attempts at turning them started damaging the heads. Will probably get back to it when I have more time to flood with WD40 or ATF/kerosene.

Thanks.

Re: please help on table saw purchase

Drill them out Ding, then if you feel like it replace them with larger machine screws.

Good to see you're at home here.

Regards to all.
