Re: please help on table saw purchase

Dropped by EY Industrial yesterday to have a close look at the Taiwan made Chin TS.

  • the top is made from cast aluminum, a bit more than 24 inches wide
  • blade is smack in the middle of the top. giving a rip capacity of 12 inches on either side
  • bevel angle indication is accurate out of the box: 0 degrees is square to the top, 45 degrees
  • is 45 degrees.
  • insert plate is made of thin steel plate that flexes when pressed
  • rip fence locks on to the sides of the table securely. I don't think it will move while making cuts.
  • miter slot is 5/8 inch wide
  • the manual says it has a riving knife, anti-kickback pawl and blade guard, but I didn't take them out of the box.
  • blade is not parallel to the miter slot. off by 1/32 of an inch. The manual didn't mention how to adjust this, but I think there are adjustment screws underneath.
  • there is no dust collection mechanism
  • body is made from plastic, easily flexed, no metal reinforcement

The deal-breaker for me was the flimsy plastic body. I'm a bit rough on my tools so this probably won't last. But the excuse I made for not buying is the blade alignment. So I thanked the manager for allowing me to inspect the merchandise and then off to Panda.

Mission failed din sa Panda. 🙁

They didn't have any of the six EZ cut router bits I was looking for. Went home with wallet untouched.

That's why i got it for only P7,500.
-my blade is parallel naman sa miter slot. Top screws will help you in alignment.
-its only a splitter knife, with anti-kickback pawls and plastic blade guard.
-i bolted the body to the table i made for it with large hole for dust collection.
- i made my own zero clearance insert out of 3/16" acrylic plastic

well, ok pa rin para sa tulad kong weekends and sometimes weeknights DIYer.

- is it Panda the one distributing the EZ cut bits or somebody else?

May we know the six router bits you were looking for?

Re: please help on table saw purchase

@doc V

0942 - 3/4 radius cove bit

0243 - shear cut straight bit

1591 - shear cut flush trim

0405 - round over with bearing

0565 - beading with bearing

0089 - extended shank straight bit

I made the list a couple of weeks ago, and I can't recall what I'm going to use them for. Hehehehe.

@Armand,

Malakas lang ang loob ko na magpakipot because, if the winds blow in the right direction, I might be able to acquire the more recommended TS models. Pero kakagatin ko rin 'yan pag hindi natuloy. :p

hmmm..very nice set up, but mostly for panel cutting only.

I spotted a Chin TS being used by a fellow Lumberjock named "littlecope" who's into boxology:

here's the link for his project: lumberjocks.com/littlecope/blog/23629

100% exactly the same with mine..except that i managed to fabricate my own zero-clearance-insert made of 3/16" acrylic plastic.

Now my lovely Chin is still covered with plastic...afraid of the rain :(:(

i think its a ryobi that chin made for them. i've noticed quite a number of table saws exactly the same as ours but i noticed that they are ryobi.

HI joey81,

This pic gives also a very nice idea in cutting large pieces of plywood or plyboards, nice set up, a
possible alternative for circular saws too.

Oh what do you think of this link, is it worth buying and is it china made too ? Who are the makers of TORQ power tools ? I'm kinda interested also in this mite saw and table saw combination.

Re: please help on table saw purchase

Hi rosy,

The Chin brand TS is from Taiwan. Built is decent, with the basic safety features (anti-kickback pawl, blade guard, riving knife).

The two major negatives (for me) are the 12-inch rip capacity and the all-plastic body. However, the jig in the pic will allow you to extend the rip capacity. And the plywood base will stabilize the plastic body and also protect it from damage.

I'm getting Chin soon, hopefully.

I don't like the miter/table saw combination. Its much more complex than a normal miter saw. And the more complex it gets, the more likely it is to break down. You can get a decent TS and miter saw for much less than 26K.

HTH.
