With no space for a dedicated big jointer, here is my 12" jointer for now:

Couldn't resist this set of color-coded plastic shims (from Lee Valley, was $5.95 before). Used (if needed) to stabilize the wood piece on a sled supported by infeed/outfeed rollers, then pass through 12" thickness planer. 'Sled' is probably too fancy a word. I just used a plain melamine board with some sandpaper taped on, to keep the wood from sliding. No clamping system needed.

After jointing one face, turn wood over for thickness planing on same machine/spot.

Woodgears seems to prefer using a power planer, but I like the simple-sled/thickness planer method. Never got around to doing the fancier sleds or router jigs that I once thought of making.
