does anyone here use a radial arm saw? I have been using one for fifteen years. Now I have two and I just can not do without them. They are my primary tool.

My first one was an 80's Craftsman from the US. Then I bought an old Dewalt. Not sure of it's age but probably mid 60's or early 70's. Now I have 4 units including an old WADKIN. Still looking for good "finds". I love restoring and using them old workhorses. So reliable and pure muscle. :horse:

Re: radial arm saw

I 2nd the motion for pics.

Very rare has any of our members ever handled a radial arm saw as it is not so popular anymore these days since the introduction of the sliding compound miter saw.

But definitely the R.A.S. can do all that a SCMS can do and much more 🙂

Re: radial arm saw

I believe yours are even older model good for restoration. This is my other dewalt 7740 I have been using it for fifteen or more years it a late 70's model. I learned from this one the hard way because internet was not available for me that time ,

WADKIN units are big but their motors are under powered. I love Dewalt simply for it's correct design and suitable balance. My unit can handle 14" blades in 100 10 120 teeth configurations w/o much deflection. I almost got a TATRY but backed out because of EURO issues w/ motor frequency (50Hz). BTW, my Dewalt came w/ a 3phase motor too. U might want to have it wired w/ a magnetic contactor for motor protection 'coz pulse starting sometimes fails burning your capacitor or much worst your motor winding. If limited budget just use a heavy duty momentary contact switch for your pulse capacitor starter so it doesn't easily burn the contact points.

Re: radial arm saw

I actually use a momentary contact switch parang clutch sa car pag takbo ng motor angat ng fingers maybe a second or two cause I was adviced that starting capacitor will burn if pressed too long

VFD's for small motors 1hp to 3hp starts from 10K ata. Magnetic contactor w/ overload protection relay mga 3k na for a 5hp or smaller. It's still cheaper than a motor rewind plus no worries pa w/ capacitor burn out.:boom: You may buy from surplus electrical dealers but make sure you get a good unit or get help from an expert when buying one.:old:
