Spirit levels are more accurate than they seem I learned a long time ago. Just get yourself a good one AND keep it accurate by not dropping it. When buying a level you can test its accuracy by setting it on the floor, any surface will do really, and then take note of the where the bubble is, chances are the surface you use will not be precisely level but that's ok ... just take note of where the bubble is. Now if you turn the level around and set it down again, the bubble must be in precisely the same position as before.

Water levels are similarly darn accurate though a bit tougher to use. One trick is to use food coloring.

Sorry this a bit off topic but I thought to mention it because using just saw horses can actually work as long as you level them in both "X and Y".

Oh another thing to have is a long piece of aluminum rectangular tubing to use as a long straight edge.

Did you check and adjust the level of the work surface? You need a bigger router there Bee. Here's a picture of the setup I mentioned previously:

Incc63 do you have any more pics of your large router thicknesser jig?
