Re: Routers... my favorite ww tool

I was tempted by the tiny routers with plexiglass base. They're sometimes listed as trimmers, aren't they? Given that my use for a router is generally for hinge mortises, laminate trimming, and edge surfacing, perhaps a small and handy router's better.

Small routers actually arent for everybody. There have been two members here who bought the bosch gmr-1 router ( i personally would not go for any router small than this) but later sold it as the medium sized routers also did the same job. I believe Timber is on of them.

ME on the other hand cherish my gmr-1 🙂 I use it alot, but then i dont have a medium sized router either. So i dont know my ultimate decision would be if i had a 1.5HP router on hand.

I have seen a maktec laminate trimmer..... its cheap but its hugely underpowered

i'd vote for the bosch gmr-1 for you. The power is more than ample, i have tortured mine. I ran it on a router planer jig. You could always contact Golden 🙂 or ask timber ( he knows the best shop to get bpsch tools)

Re: Routers... my favorite ww tool

HEY bro TIMBER,

Wow bro, NAHILO AKO AT NALITU NA RIN when I saw your router collections though you did not show the Triton router which like what you said found its way also under the table.

Hindi ko na alam tuloy bibilhin ko as my first router ba, I really am planning to buy one or two coz I too have many projects here in my wife's kitchen to renovate or change like the cabinet doors and drawers, they really need some face lifts already. I was eyeing two routers, a DEWALT like chisel's and a TRITON, he he he he both yellows, I think naman I won't be distracted by its colors. 😀

Timbs, is TRITON router good enough only when its under the table or what because almost if not all, most RTs that I have seen posted, its always a TRITON router that I would see under.
Have plans also of making a router table in the future.

What would you recommend for my first router and as a first time user, are the DEWALT and
TRITON routers good choice for me ? :apple:

THANKS and stay safe always. :thanks:

Rosy, for a do it all router, I would suggest you go the Triton direction. Yes it is definitely best under the table, but it is a decent handheld one as well. The common reason why people with rt's have a second router is because of the inconvenience using it as a handheld and putting it back.

If I may try to answer Doc in my capacity ha. At 1hp, you do not need to go lower speed, even our foreign brothers who have the VS models say they hardly use the speed control and is always set at full. so not having is really not a loss.

Re: Routers... my favorite ww tool

the vs was for use with big bits, which smaller routers can't handle anyway
