@timber,

in the eventual purchase of the sj401, where can we get the smaller profile blades?i am not familiar with their numbering...one project that i am planning to build dictates a 0-2 size blades kasi.

Re: scrollsaw

weight... hrmmmm i dont know, i will weigh it tomorrow

variable speed in my opinion is a plus, i up the speed when cutting straight, lower it when cutting curves. I dont use the scroll saw much though. i believe its lighter than its makita counterpart.

I dont mind the vibration. But i have no other point of comparison for this

Re: scrollsaw

thanks bee for the info and for the bother of weighing the tool.

the 0.2 must be due to the sawdusts...hehe

Re: scrollsaw

hahahah .

I unbolted the scrollsaw yesterday from its original stand (now given to my router table as roller stand) so it was loose na

i had the scale at the workshop a few days prior pa so it was as simple as slapping it on.

As for the blades nga pala. Ask Timber nalang where to get. the blades i have i get them at Wilcon, but quality isnt as good as the blades that came with the saw itself!! it came with an assortment of different sized blades. all pinned

it receives unpinned blades too as well

Re: scrollsaw

today i managed to get away with a makita sj401 for some projects intended for Christmas..i dont know honestly if i can make them in time but was itching to get a scrollsaw for years.

unpacked and just took out the manual.

here is a comparison between the makita stock blade (pinned) and a small blade (pinless) i think can be fitted to the blade holder.

i am still reeling from today's schedule and would like to rest now.like i said, i dont know if i can play with the new toy this weekend.

perhaps not.

Timber and i planned to shop for smaller blades but there was too little time. Maybe later.

Naku, mukhang babawi sa Master Ernie at ipagpapatuloy ang kanyang masterpiece last time. Kung masyado macho ang jigsaw sa pine, swabe na ito for sure sa scroll saw! 😎

Re: scrollsaw

@timber,

here is the 3/4 plywood base cabinet for the sj401...no drawers yet..this was finished two weeks ago when i was feeling a bit better than today.

painted the inside & outside with brick red Davies roofing paint over a acrylic putty..solid wood edging applied after the paint has dried with yellow glue and occasional brad nails...the base cabinet is very light with a small footprint making the tool to vibrate more during operation...i will make the bottom drawer (dont know when) and perhaps fill that up with sandbags to minimize vibration.

cellphone pic lang po.

Re: scrollsaw

Looking good V. Probably would be a good idea to thread in the nuts before you cut the bolts.

Re: scrollsaw

thanks Jay, the sj401 has three bolt slots two in front and one at the back..i remember the two bolts were fastened with a wingnut! hehe..

soon to visit the bolt and nut center and get lock washers and correct bolts instead of cutting them myself..kaya lang not this soon pa.

i forgot to mention that a 5mm thick black rubber gasket is placed between the table and the tool inserted to the bolts..this somehow dampened the vibration.

the siliconized roofing paint was applied using a thin 2" wide Ace brush with natural bristles..they are a great brush and cheap (24p?/pc)
