I really would not recommend this saw for high precision work, but with the price it is unbeatable for anything else....
if your budget would allow, get something better. but at the same price, you can only get a miter saw, not a sliding one... imho.

Just bought mine recently at a local industrial tools shop here at pampanga. Im writing this for the sake of potential SCMS buyers. In my own opinion the saw is pretty decent in its price range. Looks though and the quality is quite good. Sliding is pretty soft and little effort is needed when bringing the blade down. Laser guide is accurate (adjustable) . The box comes with a bosch warranty card and other accessorries as well. Bought mine for Php 9,500. I hope this helps other buyers out there

Thanks supafly for sharing, I know every individual have their own views and assessment on every tools acquired so if you honestly find it worth buying, then congratulations, what is important is ones personal satisfaction . We also have another member who purchased the said SCMS, just did a little adjustment and everything was just fine.

Why not send bryant77 a PM and ask some personal opinion of this SCMS, its been a year now since he purchased a unit and I am sure he now have the first hand experience using the SKIL SCMS for cutting his MDF boards.

It's more than a year since I got my Skil SMCS at Panda.
Price: 10,300.00 ( year 2012)

Initial review upon testing.
1. Saw blade has an arbor size of 1".

2. Poor location of vacuum port. No dust goes & exits at the vacuum port/ dust collector bag. Dust directly hit the location of the laser unit.

3. Don't trust the factory setting of miter and bevel gauge. You need to fine tune the equipment. I had a good cut result after several test & adjustment.

Additional review.

4. The two slide tube is made of steel. I need to clean & oil it once a month to prevent rusting. If I'm not mistaken the Bosch SMCS slide tube is made from stainless steel.

5. Noisy motor. I think it's normal for all miter saw.

I used it not only for mdf and plywood but also on cross cutting 2" x 12" hardwood like tanguile & guiho.

Thanks for the review. Are you still using it? Would you recommend it? I watched a video in youtube where I saw how it was tunedup which seems not that hard.

My lined up projects are all for personal use. Ill be doing a loft type bed, cabinet and probably a tool shed.

Okay last Saturday I got an opportunity to convince my fiance to buy this SCMS in Panda which I got for 11K. Sinumpong pagka impulsive buyer ko! hahaha! 😀
The box is HUGE!! it did not almost fit into my car which is just a sedan type and I have to travel it to tarlac and back to manila.
I also tried to used it to cut 2x2 as well as some plyboards.

My observations:
1. Noise - before sobrang naiingayan ako sa circular saw ko. Pero nung natry ko tong SKIL 3160, biglang parang ang tahimik na ng circular saw ko..

2. Cut - kailangan mo talaga sya i-setup ng maayos para makapag cut ka ng square. pero good thing is that may napanood ako video sa youtube prior to buying it kaya may idea ako kung pano itune up. Minsan talaga ang problema yung kahoy. dahil kung hindi man wala eh napaka rare ng straight na wood na nabibili sa hardware store. So kung gusto mo talaga ng perfect cut, make sure din perfect straight ang wood. Which naisip ko sarap palang may planer... 😀 But so far cut is really good and I'm happy with it!

3. Power - Malakas sya. meron din kickback kang mararamdaman.

4. Dust - ang daammiii!! at parang isang kutsara lang ang nasalo ng dust bag. haha!

5. Safety - Make sure lang na nakabolt sa table yung saw dahil baka tumalon dahil sa kickback.

6. Features - malaking bagay din ang laser. Medyo swabe din ang pag slide kung magcucut ka ng mahaba. But I guess mas maganda kung aalagaan mo ng oil..

7. Built - Mukha naman syang matibay. pero mahirap pang magsalita ngayon dahil kabibili ko lang..

Overall I'm very satisfied so far. Marami akong magagawang projects dito. 🙂

Ganyan yata talaga miter saw. Maingay na, marami pang flying saw dust. Gumamit ka na lang lagi ng PPE para sa ingay at dust.

Meron na ko goggles at masks. Hearing protector naghahanap pa. Palpak nabili ko kasi mumurahin lang.
