Re: Skil 7 1/4" Circular Saw

installed a 40 tooth Optiline series Bosch CS blade for testing. using the proper spacer for the arbor to center properly.tightening the arbor nut requires very little force needed since the direction of the blade provided the tightening effect of the arbor nut. I also found that this saw does not have an arbor lock, meaning, you loosen and tighten the arbor nut by holding on the blade. a reason why light tightening is required.

the safety lock ( the black knob on top of the handle) needs to be pressed as well as the trigger switch to start and run the motor, it is a smart safety feature I found nice.

Re: Skil 7 1/4" Circular Saw

the base plate is made of a 2mm steel material that is sturdy enough and provided correct weight without being heavy.
unfortunately, I have noticed that when the blade is fully raised and locked, the adjuster mechanism made the base slightly twisted.

with the saw without force the base front is square.

well you do need to push the saw forward for it to cut. and as soon as you do, it becomes obvious that the base is out of square. (notice the left edge slightly raised)

this can be corrected by slightly leaning the saw slightly to one side before locking the depth of cut adjustment knob. I have tested the saw cutting pieces of 1/2" sheet of plywood and so far, it has been accurately square. will push it some more and update its performance...
the motor runs slightly louder than most CS's in the market. but that has many variables like the saw blade I am using.

Re: Skil 7 1/4" Circular Saw

the blade tilt adjustment is as basic as basic can get. there is no fine adjustment for zero cut, which means that if your saw is incorrectly set at the factory or you have dropped the saw and got it out of square. there is no easy way to set it correctly back to zero (which btw is 90 degrees)...

again with the tilt mechanism, the construction is basic, using markings on the levers to indicate the angle of cut. tightening is a bit tricky as the screw moves inside the notches and can visually hinder the markings.

the full tilt is 45 degrees and I can't seem to align the markings. which tells me that the other markings would be inaccurate too, and would require test pieces before cutting the actual materials.

the other end of the tilt is connected to the depth adjustment mechanism and is a bit flimsy which gives the saw a slight wobble on light cuts like 1/2" plywood. but it still hasn't affected my cuts up to now.

Re: Skil 7 1/4" Circular Saw

the saw hasn't seen much action yet, in the next few days, it will be used to cut 2" or more mahogany and will run thru its paces. a full review to follow as soon as I push it to its maximum performance or limit... 🙂
