Hi PHM Community! I'm about to invest on a "Starter Power Tool Set" for basic woodworking/carpentry and general construction use. I Already have a Bosch Drill and Angle Grinder.
I'd like to ask for your recommendation for the best bang for the buck tools to have to replace manual labor. Ex. Should i Get a circulaw saw or a Jigsaw? Orbital Sander or palm sander? any other tool you can suggest? Also... basic question, workbench- would it be more economical to build one; or buy ready made ones from SKIL, etc?

thanks always

starter power tool set?
hmmmm....you must have...
1. circular saw (a 5" is always nice because of weight and also if you are just going to cut sheet goods, if you will split lumber, get the 7 1/4")
2. miter saw (Makita is my brand for miter saws, the compound miter type is just alright)
3. random orbit sander (Bosch has a small wonder ROS)
......
it is always nice if you can invest in a table saw, at least the contractor type, the Bosch GTS10J i think is available locally.

build a sturdy workbench. the skil workbench is i believe is just a sawhorse.

Thank you! i already bought a palm / sheet sander -- cheap one "homelite" brand less than 2k. so far, so good. Now im looking for the best cutter for plywood.. we'll be using 3/4" plywood or plyboard to make cabinets. Should i go for a circular saw or a jigsaw? thanks!

Get a circular saw. Its more durable than a jigsaw and will cut any plywood. Mine is Ryobi, Aussie surplus costing 3k and its awesome.

If you are making cabinets, get a router. The routed is the most versatile tool you can own. It can create dados, rabbets, even grooves and decorative mouldings. Its a great investment and im sure you will use it more than all your other tools. Check on youtube on how can you maximize your router.
