table saw router station almost done
The miter guage on the router table is from the table saw. This time since i will be routing the table top i can assure myself that there wont be any play and hence, an instant mitaer guage for the RT
The station sit next to the miter saw station so i can have extra support when cutting small pieces from a long stock. the miter saw stop block is on the other end
I know i shouldve used white mdf, but i had that pehnolic board lying around so i didnt want it to go to waster
Next will be mounting the TS ripfence so the RT can use it as well
Re: table saw router station
Nice work Bee. I like the height. Sometime when using my floor standing router table, I wish wasn't so high. About the top not being white, if you don't really like that then get a can epoxy spray paint. it will wear off sure but you can always spray more on.
Re: table saw router station
i am adding wheels to the thing, found that it'd be more convenient to roll it around.
I will be using a thickj plastic chopping board for the insert plate .. i used a bamboo chopping board and it didnt work quite well.
I will skip making any drawers for now since all dusts go down 😛
Re: table saw router station
What was the problem with the bamboo board, did it delaminate when it was cut?
Re: table saw router station
Guad
The bamboo board had hallow portion in between the plys so when i drilled it the drill wobbled when it reached thehollow portion
pic updates:
i still decided to use the bamboo board though. the plastic chopping oard i had wasnt rigid enough
I have some bolts coming up from the underside which acts as the fine height adjustment for the plate insert
here is the station moved against the work bench. The wheels i got were the spherical wheels that looks like balls instead of those that were actually shaped like wheels. It is not plastic but a really hard rubber.
I thought i needed to put a lock of some sort but it stays stable but not so rigid that i can easily move it around if i need it,
The router table is Clamped instead of bolted. coz of the way the legs are made ( i got lazy and did not measure accordingly hehehe)
Re: table saw router station
question to Timber if you read this,
Does the miter slot in the RT have to be perfectly parallel to the fence?
Also i have the impression that the fence does not have to be in parallel with anything for it to work properly (unlike the table saw) because we have a round bit cutting and not a straigh saw blade .
Am i correct?

you are correct. the easiest way to fix a fence is bolting it on one side and swivel it and lock it on the other side...

Re: table saw router station
btw bee, you can get a 1/4" aluminum plate in T. Alonso for your RT insert. stable, safe and better accuracy...

Re: table saw router station
That is one reason I miss my DIY table. As Timber said, on my DIY table, I could just loosen the clamp on one side of the fence and tap that end to change the depth of cut. I can't do that with any of the ready made RTs because their fences are held in place with bolts.
The good thing though with the way the fences of ready made RTs are clamped is that the have scales to set the depth of cut with. The scales are not that useful though IMHO.
Instead of using the miter fence, you might consider making a sled instead that is guided by the RT edges.

Timber,
What if i use acrylic instead? would 6mm suffice or should i use 12mm?
i am not comfortable cutting aluminum yet.

I wouldn't recommend acrylic since it reacts with heat and router does produce some. a 12mm naman would lose you cutting depth.
when you buy aluminum, you can have them cut it to your dimension, make sure lang you have at least 1mm leeway on two sides so you can trim it to an exact fit.... as for the hole, well all you need is a drill press and a hole bit that can handle soft metals(most cheap ones do)...

Re: table saw router station
router table finally can function like one!
the fence has an adjustable opening thingy
miter slot width just a tad bit below perfect, hence the miter gauge is wrapped with aluminum tape to increase width a little bit. Miter gauge is "stolen" from the jet table saw
Re: table saw router station
Fence is changed and insert plate will change too (pics soon)
Taking Timber's advice on the 1/4" thick aluminum plate. The bamboo chopping board just takes up too much depth hence cutting thickness tends to be a problem sometimes.
Re: table saw router station
bee,
where'd u get ur 1/4 alum plate? can find it in typical glass-alum shops around.
thanks
Re: table saw router station
I'd like to know too especially since your office is near mine :). The closest I know of that will sell plates cut to size is AA Aluminum. T. Alonzo will definitely have them.
Nice going Bee. Keep the pictures coming.
