Re: table saw router station

I am still asking around with the plate. A supplier at our company quoted a plywood size 6mm thick at 10,000 pesos.

If they are nice they will part with a 2 x 2 at 2,500 and a 1 x 1 at 1,250.... but iam still waiting for their reply. Once i get their reply i have to call some shops at t. alonzo to compare prices.

But the price really makes buying a commercial insert plate look like a reaaaaaaaaaaal value. Kung meron lang dito eh... i wonder if HANS or MAYON has such.

Half of the fun with this hobby is FINDING the places that sells these stuff.... now that i think of it.. i need t-tracks!

Re: table saw router station

Why so big?

Bee, I have to go to T. Alonzo soon to buy a 75 mm diameter aluminum pipe for my boat project. I'm thinking of going on Monday but I'll have to call them first to make sure they're open. If you like Bee I can buy a plate for you and you can just get it from me on Tuesday. Your office is awfully near mine anyway. In addition to the dimensions you want, I'll also need to know what alloy. I'm no expert in alloys so you might want to look into it. The pipe I'm getting is 6061-T5 (hopefully) which is structural. I think the 5000 series is what is used for windows and such. The PHBYC forum has a LONG discussion.

How much are those router plates now anyway? Last time I looked they were too expensive for me. Better to start a new topic on this though.

Re: table saw router station

By the way, those plates they quoted you must have gold cores or something. The pipe I'm getting only costs P1500 and it is 3 m long 75 mm OD dia and 3 mm thick, and this "top" grade 6061-T5 or -T6.

Re: table saw router station

I think Aluminum is a good choice for an RT plate material. The one in my Bosch Portable RT is and does not sag at all.

Do you think the local shops here can make aluminum insert rings or at least copy the plastic ones I have?

Re: table saw router station

Absolutely, Jay. Actually I think you could make those rings yourself with just a router. By the way, carbide router bits can mill aluminum too. Just don't cut too deep or too fast.

Re: table saw router station

This is the problem I'm encountering with my RT. I have an aluminum plate but the rings are plastic. These do flex and are a bit hard to level. If I can have aluminum rings then most probably the RT performance will be a lot better.

This RT plate has good ring design.

Re: table saw router station

I have and love that Pinnacle rt insert plate Jay, and while I give it a 5 star for performance I probably would recommend the phenolic model since it is cheaper and will tend to scratch less.. aluminum tends to scratch easy kasi, mine is full of it, but isn't really affecting performance but more on cosmetic only. the twist rings are very nice to use, and the standard are almost all you need cause the extra 8 pcs cost another 80+ dollars.

Re: table saw router station

You mean this one

Are the rings phenolic too and do you think these will sag with big routers?

yes, those are the ones. Moji might be able to comment better. he got the from me... the rings are phenolic too iirc, and these won't sag even with the heaviest router. very solid...

Re: table saw router station

I have not noticed any sag with the phenolic plate. They are very sturdy. I would recommend it although i have never tried aluminum so i can't compare them.

Re: table saw router station

I haven't tried making my own RT yet but have any of you tried 1/2" acrylic? I know a supplier in Pinpin st, Binondo who either has small cut pieces or will cut it to your size.
