Re: Taytay wood source

Owyn,

Your marker on Ortigas is the Panasonic factory or the Tropical Hut supermarket. Just a minute after the Valley Golf gate. The lumber source Is less than 5 minutes from the Tropical Hut.

Joey,

The prices per boardfoot I quoted are higher than new lumber from the hardware, but these are hardwoods taken down from old houses. Their considerably heavier and much harder than hardware purchased lumber. They do have Tanguile like from the hardware but at about P38-40 per boardfoot. You also have to deal with the nail holes left behind. Narra prices vary depending where you get them. P150-180 per brdft. is about average. The larger the size, the more expensive it gets per brdft.

Nueva Ecija will be a great place to hunt for wood, I haven't been there yet but my brother-in-law who goes there regularly knows of a place. It's called "Victor Wood"( no kidding - will try to get the details of the location if i can)

Re: Taytay wood source

I am actually looking forward for you guys to teach me how to I.D. our local wood species. 🙂 so far i can only "smell" narra

I will be bringing my dmax pickup. I would not recommend anything longer than eight feet on it. my route is libis to commonwealth. So anyone near the area i can volunteer to haul whatever they buy.

considering that they dryed for years, i think they worth the risk.like you said, nail is one problem but can be easly take off. but im still scared that my planer be chip by those nails 🙁 oh well gotta hav those meatal detector like the used by the Guards.we have one in our office.:)

well its quite hard to get this days for good supply here. you have to go upmountain to get the decent ones. but theres a large supply of Gmellina here though. this afternoon will go to pantabangan to see if we can find good sullpier but i know one in penaranda which we go there from time to time. ive scored good narra there sometime ago and its ready to make table one of this days.

Re: Taytay wood source

Gentlemen,

I plan to leave my house in San Juan about 7:30 on Saturday (if the weather permits) and just drive down Ortigas towards Taytay. Suggested meeting points start from my house on 285 Ibuna near P. Guevara, Tiendesitas, Ever Gotesco and lastly, Tropical Hut. You can get in touch with me on 0918-918-8840 so we can coordinate vehicles. I can take one passenger on my pick-up.

Bee,

If your pick-up license plate has 9 for the last digit, it should be okay to drive until the end of month. Just as long as you don't wait until October to register it. (9 din ang last digit ng pick-up ko)

Re: Taytay wood source

I think these are the locations Mr. workbench meant. EDSA-Ortigas intersection is to the left.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=taytay+rizal&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=40.460237,93.076172&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Taytay,+Rizal,+CALABARZON+1920,+Philippines&ll=14.585785,121.115856&spn=0.024172,0.045447&z=15

Haven't been here but looks pretty straight forward =). PM for Moj.

Re: Taytay wood source

Ei guys, do we have a consensus on what time we'll gonna go? Morning till lunch maybe? A friend has some time constraints (and to be honest, me too) so we just might not make it if ever...

Re: Taytay wood source

This is roughly the location of Policarpio lumber from the Tropical Hut at the corner of Ortigas ext. Let me know where you want to meet so I can wait for you there. My no. is 0918-918-8840

BTW,

If we have time, would you also like to go to the Bandsaw cutting supplier? Just a short drive from Policarpio.

Re: Taytay wood source

Guys,

Since no one has called or texted me yet, how about between 8:00 and 8:30 at the Tropical Hut. There's a fastfood at the far end of the supermarket where we can all meet.

Ben.

If you can find the Tropical Hut, call me and I can either fetch you or guide you in.

Re: Taytay wood source

Only randy and myself were able to go. Randy got a one 4x4x9 and a 2x6x10 piece of of yakal. We had them planed and cut to size for an additional fee. I got a 1x11x12 piece guijo and 2 pcs. of 1x4x16 tanguile.

Cleaned and dimensioned pieces.
