Re: thicknesser and jointer desire

Hi guys,

I brouight the item back to hanstools today. their policy is only exchange item. But i knew i could push for a refund coz it is law anyway. I did say that if they did have another stock i will take it. And they did find one more in their warehouse that will be due for delivery this friday.

So i will wait and see the condition of the new one.

Nevertheless i am still open for tool hunting eb!!!!

With regards to Taytay wood source, I might be going there this Saturday. I will be out of town for the next 2 Saturdays so my next availability will be in June. If anyone's interested in seeing the place, just post in this thread.

Have you heard been to Policarpio sash and wood supply. Located in Medina Compound in Taytay. Nearest landmark is the Tropical Hut on Ortigas extension across the National Panasonic factory.

Re: thicknesser and jointer desire

lncc63,

If its the lumber supply beside the BPI but before Tropical Hut, that's not it yet. Though you can get good lumber there. Rough cut and 2x comes out to 2 1/8 in actual measurement. But I haven't bought from there for a while.

Policarpio wood is way inside, about a 5 minute drive from the corner of Tropical Hut. If you plan to go on your own, the tricycle drivers in the corner might be able to give directions.

Re: thicknesser and jointer desire

No need to worry Timber, my favorite stores are scrap wood stores :). On the few occasions that I buy "good" lumber, I always buy from the lumber yard before the Shell station to keep the travel distance show as I get nervous seeing 6 m of wood dangling front and back of a tricycle.

If you guys are going to area on a weekend you'd be most welcome to drop by house which is not 10 minutes from Tropical.

Re: thicknesser and jointer desire

i am on a tool binge today.

just grabbed the thicknesser Php 14,770, ordered a scroll saw, php 5,100 from panda as well. I compared it to a Johnson electric scroll saw, i prefer Jet's base.

Grabbed a dai-ichi drill press Php6,200, 16mm chuck. its a little large i guess? from Mytools. The owner told me its made in China hence he recommended me to get a higher power rating over the 4K i was looking at before just to be sure.

My wife is "sponsoring" the jointer and thicknesser, and so i decided i may as well complete my workshop equipment before liquidity dries out due to the Little Bundle of Joy 🙂 anytime soon and i am hoping it wont be election day.

All thats left for me to acquire is a bandsaw and a wood lathe. The Jet bandsaw looks ok but its only 80mm cutting capacity. I would like one that could cut 4 - 6 inches.

will post pics maybe tonight

i am hoping i could sell some furnitures to my relatives and friends just to recoup from the investment hehe. Or i guess its just my ancestor's chinese merchant mentality in me talking.

Re: thicknesser and jointer desire

congrats Ben, but should have asked. the drill press we are using (me, Jay and I think Chisel) is Taiwan made and very good performing cost around 6.5K iirc.

didn't like the Johnson scrollsaw either, vibrates a lot. is the Jet ss variable speed?
man, someday... paglaki ko gagayahin kita... hahahaha

Hi sir Ben,

Pwede ba ko pa-ampon sa'yo? I could be your BIGGER bundle of joy!

Kidding aside, you are one lucky bloke! Imagine the wife sponsoring power tools! Congratualtions in advance in your soon-to-be-heir of your big toys. I also do hope s/he won't decide to go out and vote on election day! =p

Interested on the scroll saw and drill press that you;ve got, we'll be waiting for your pics!

Re: thicknesser and jointer desire

Good for you Bee! I'm sure you'll have many hours of great fun with all these tools.

I was just at Han's awhile ago, bought a center drill (bit) for my little lathe, and I think I saw the Jet thicknesser at P20k so that's a pretty good price. They also had a Makita thicknesser in front of it and I could not find any significant difference even when I turned the height adjustment knob ... mine creaks a lot.

Pictures, pictures, pictures!
