Been longing to have a lathe I want to put my woodworking skill to the next level, wood turning is very addicting so what the heck I purchase a not so good lathe actually the construction is lame and cheapo so I’m not encouraging you to buy this brand of lathe it happens that I need it to finish my other project but it’s a good start considering there are no well made lathe available locally.

Package contains a 12 inch tool rest, tails stock the lathe has a 36 inch bed and 9 inch swing so I can turn almost all the standard turning.

My first attempt only use a standard ¾ wood chisel.

Re: Ticket To wood Turnings

Hard not to have the correct tools to do the job, So decided to visit binondo to get some tools, found 1 and it’s the best its an Marples 8 pcs wood turning tool England made not cheap but worth it.

Also be needing a outside diameter woodturning caliper and grab the Proto brand US made.

The Marples handle is made up of Ash the wood favorite for making baseball bats, no turning back now its wood turning for me wish me luck

Re: Ticket To wood Turnings

Congrats bro. I have one of those too and a set of Delta knives. Mine though doesn't work too well at the full length so I've always only used half the bed. Jet has a cast iron bedway, much more solid than the steel tubes of our lathes, much more expensive though I'd expect.

yeah, told him as long as it isn't DIY (entry) level stuff, 30K is a decent price that even I wouldn't mind paying. Jets has some really nice bandsaw that works spectacular for resawing...

Yes Bbn you are correct because of the lousy construction you have to modify some parts for example the head stock should be rigid so I’m planning to weld some support bar on it

Thanks bro. I was actually thinking about these before I saw your post. Did you happen to see if they had the inside caliper too.

Re: Ticket To wood Turnings

Definitely Jay they have it Japan made and US, just not familiar with the caliper so I don’t know what brand is the best but as any tools well made it doesn’t come cheap may be next week I have to come back there to get an inside caliper.

Re: Ticket To wood Turnings

Proto is a real good brand. The Industrial arm of Stanley.

I noticed that what you got did not have the Top Handle. I would prefer one that have this so I can hold it like a compass.

Please let us know what you find next week.

Thanks

Re: Ticket To wood Turnings

I’m attempting to turn fenial using the lathe, rip 1 3/8” palo china square.

Almost done when the wood gave up and snap, had to redo my work.

Now I’m being care full not to put too much force, using a gouge I carefully work my way.

With the aid of caliper I size the dowels.
