It seems to all the rage in woodworking circles abroad. Haven't seen on here so far. Any alternatives?

Hello Marclee,
If I recall correctly there are shops who sell Bosch rep saw. I have Ozito brand still in the case and will stay in the case. I don't seem to find a use for this tool for my woodworking.

How different is this from an ordinary reciprocating saw?

i think they are the same ... Sawzall is just a brand name ... while reciprocating saw is the name for this type of power tool ... i saw a video in you tube before where this guy use this reciprocating saw to dig/cut the ground/roots around a bamboo shoot so that he can transplant it in another location 🙂 ... cheers

Boo!

i use something similar , actually its a gearbox assembly from a ryobi reciprocating saw with a burned motor that i got for free from a suking surplus seller, then i paid a local machine shop 200 pesos to fabricate an extended gear shaft so i can fit it to any of my drill chucks as a drill attachment

i use it for rough cutting wood and demolition (cutting nails in-between woods rather than prying or bashing with a hammer), with a hacksaw blade to cut nails and metals, on the picture it has a 8inch pruning blade to cut tree branches much safer than a chainsaw

We actually have lots of alternative Reciprocating Saw or what others call it Sabre Saw.

Comes to mind is Bosch,Skil, Makita, DCA, Dewalt and we also have the SAWZALL from MILWAUKEE here in the PH.
