Hey guys, May I know where can I buy a good bandsaw without spending a fortune? I've have been searching around this site and it seems nobody has open a topic like this before. So I decided to create one for newbies like me and for those future addition to the group. Thanks.

How did you search? The internal search as well as an external search targeted at this forum turns up quite a few previous threads like:

Band saw, resawing, frame saw
The making of a 14inch homemade bandsaw
looking for a good Bandsaw
About bandsaws
bandsaw suggestions needed
and more.

Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw

@ timber
I'm new to wood working and just recently got addictive to it. Now I have got the "wood bug" and would like to start building my workshop. As of now, all my tools are just laying around on the ground as I do not have proper table. I have purchased some woods to start building my table but I am having hard time to make the legs planar. Now I read previous post here including your projects and gives me a idea on how to proceed. As to start and weighing my needs and searching the internet, it seems to me at this point that it will be more beneficial to acquire a bandsaw more than a table saw as there are ways to make bandsaw to produce good cuts and planar. Also factor in the cost of each power tools. I saw this Torq from tools from us (model BS470) and it seems to be what I need. Can you recommend a good bandsaw that almost the same functionality as the torq and has best bang for the bucks? Thanks much. appreciate your help.

@guad,
thanks for the links. I have read some of those post but I may not seen a good recommendation for this tool and the best pricing. I'm hoping for the members that may have purchased their bandsaw to give input or recommendations.

Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw

you mean this? I don't have a bandsaw and haven't really need one that bad yet. I work around it with my jigsaw. the ts is more versatile imho.

...
thanks for the links. I have read some of those post but I may not seen a good recommendation for this tool and the best pricing.

Previous thread mentioned the prices of the three Torq bandsaw models and said none available of any model. Are the prices and availability still the same as stated, did you call Elektro Werk?

Previous thread also mentioned Grizzly bandsaws. Did you check the info/reviews/prices on them?

meron na kasi akong ts(torq)ok naman sya,

Torq is one of the few table saws available locally but until now no one has reported buying one or shared a review. Maybe you can review or show pictures? [official picture]

Speaking of Torq, the brand has bandsaws, bench grinder, compound miter saw, dust collectors, planer, scroll saw, table saw, vacuum cleaner. But so far, no one has reported buying any one of these and given a review. Same for Power Craft air compressors and drill presses.

Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw

Thanks for the comments guys, yes I have seen the reviews here for the bosch 4100 TS. It is pretty and expensive but it is not available locally. The things I like about bandsaw over table saw are the flexibility of a jigsaw and the possibility to be able to cut a good 90degrees that the table saw can do. As far as I've seen, besides from cutting wood and veneers, it can also cut soft metals like copper and aluminum. It is also has small foot print for space conscious hobbyist. I'm not saying that I dont like table saw, because I do like to have one, but as far as what I need, it seems to be a best bang for the bucks to have a bandsaw first then later on with the table saw. But maybe I will get a drill press first before TS. But then again, I would like to get the most out of my savings by choosing the right bandsaw at a price level. this will be use primarily as a hobby and maybe some sidelines along the way. more inputs appreciated.

Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw

yes my ts is torq tts315.i bought it 2 yrs ago,i was hunting for a table saw,at that time, i have no idea that most ts have a miter slot, anti kick back pawls, dado blades, etc.i just read it in the newspaper this torq ts & they have this exhibit at sm moa, this manilacon exhibit.they test drive it,and that's it i bought it at 17k price, they gave it to me at 16.5k discount price with free 10" blade(powercraft) & two 6" f clamps.it has a riving knife as its safety features, its riving cause it moves togethre with the blade,1800watts of power which is pretty good for me,& the salesperson told me that it has the quietest motor in its class,to me i think is true, coz he test drive a german made ts at 50k or more price forgot the brand, but same distributor, and yes it is quiet...reviews on performance?well not until i saw this bosch4100.i've not yet seen or tested the 4100,but in pics, videos & timbers story as well as the other "2" who have it...sayang late ko na nadiscover etong forum nato huhuhu!ripping?i've add an aux fence just to extend the fence at the other end and clamp it,just to make it stable.x-cutting?well the miter gauge to is not that stable,it has no miter slot,it has a separate rail wherein the miter glides,so i think it is,hehehe.flatness?no trueness..i bought a makita 10" blade,di pala kasya sa arbor, pina machine shop ko pa para kumasya.some other good think about this ts is that it can handle a 12" blade, but not a dado blade.that's my story about my ts,kakalungkot...hindi ako makapag post ng pictures, dipako marunong mag download sa photobucket, yaw ako turuan ng anak ko hehehe, paturo naman...naku makulitan na sakin si sir timber.

Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw

band saw should also be flat as table saw to be planar as well as the fence. I may need to buy a well engineered eskwala and use it when checking for equipments before buying. Is there anything I need to consider like the motor power or the blade that should be use. I assume blade should be carbide type.

Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw

guys,

I called Panda and Toolsfromus and got the following quotations:

Panda : Jet 350 watts (~1/2hp) bandsaw - 7,340 pesos
Toolsfromus: Torq 1/2 hp -12,500
Torq 1 hp - 23,00
Torq 1500watts - 83,000

Panda only has 1 bandsaw which is the jet 350watts.

Is 1/2hp motor undersize for hobbyist and home carpentry? Need input please. It is tempting to get the 1/2hp since its affordable for me..

On the side note: I also inquire for Drill press and below are the quotations just in case anyone is interested.

Panda:
Showa 1/2hp - 6,600
Showa 2h - 22,800
Record 1/2hp - 27,600 (expensive isn't it.. this is from our province(england) ... joke..

toolsfromus.com:
Powercraft 1/2hp - 7,000
Powercraft 1hp - 18,000
Powercraft 1.5hp - 27,800

Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw

know the capacities of each and decide if it will work for you. the jet can be more than enough but it really depends on the things you want to do with it. if you intend to cut a sheet of plywood on it, then I would call you crazy, but if you intend to cut wood in small dimensions then it would be fine. think hard and make a list of what you want to do with the tool you want to buy. then choose what fits your needs the most. getting cheap stuff that you cannot use usually results to more expense. btw, have you seen the Jet BS?

Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw

I once saw a 'Johnson Elektrik' bandsaw at a Wilcon, cutting capacity 150 mm (must be height not throat), ~P22K. No power rating, but I guess 1 hp from the price.

Can't comment on this mystery but proliferating brand or on the smaller bandsaw sizes, but once you start considering the P20-30K range, that is getting into the price (including shipping) and performance territory that the Grizzly 14" bandsaw seems to cover well.
