Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw
I negotiated with my wife... eheheh
She wants a carbon copy of an existing lounge chair.. worth 26k.... i told her, why not BUY ME a bandsaw worth 20K and i will make that lounge chair with only 6K worth of wood (or less)
She said YES in one condition. TAPUSIN KO LAHAT NG PENDING PROJECTS MUNA !!!!!! ...
I have errrrr.... 1,2....3..... projects pending i think. Well i think the conditions are very reasonable and it gives me time to check on the bandsaws available locally (if nothing is good i still wont buy)
Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw
Come to think of it, it's not bad deal after all. You finish your projects and you get your bandsaw.
OR tell her that the pending projects already need a bandsaw so get yout new toy have an option:D to pend the other projects more*

Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw
Has anyone from the forum bought any bandsaw locally?
Got one but not locally, the Grizzly on introductory price last year. Hope to review as soon as I can get to it.
The Johnson Elektrik bandsaw mentioned above is a 12 in. I understand that Johnson Elektrik is a brand of Hans.
I once picked up a spare part at Anonas Construction on Kamias cor. Anonas and saw a green Hamada (?) bandsaw in addition to Torq. Didn't get any info on it, but might be worth looking into.
Did you ask Mayon about the Hinoki (?) that they were supposedly storing somewhere?

Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw
you can try going to Mayon, look for Koko and ask about the Hinoki brand. I believe it was under mayon's wing before and they still have a few left. no harm in asking 😀
as for the lathe, I know it is Chisel that has one... 😉

Ya know, my gf's starting to act like that. She asked me to make her a bookcase and i said something about the bandsaw i have to finish ^_^. (I could use it now but i will primer/paint it right. God knows i need a sander right now) Truth is, I've already alloted 4K each month for weekend date money and i even surrende... i mean give it to her "full gives". That's never touched and in reality i always shell out extra 'cause we love to eat ^_^. SWMBO nga. Basta, the bandsaw followed me home, and some bi-metal bandsaw blades will suddenly appear on april and jump to the car trunk...

Lathe's still offline. Haven't put bearings yet. (It uses big bearings whose cost am not excited to know, i mean the BS gearbox's bearing cost ~3K =/.) I don't think i have much use for it too, but i think i have some sort of moral obligation to fix it since it's well built. (Tapos na ko sa day job so back to shop nako ATM!)
Got no leads for a working, good bandsaw so apologies. I sure hope those hamada's from the makita dealer is still there.
Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw
we asked Mayon about hamada's and apparently they dont have it anymore.
I am contemplating on making a shopmade bandsaw just like Mathias (the wood gear dude)
ill keep looking around
Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw
Hmmm. The guy where i got the powermatic came from has an old delta 14". But... i guess it says a lot that it's the one i was supposed to get and decided to pass the instant i saw it. The cast iron frame is fine but the sheet metal guards are very rusty (saw it and am not impressed with the way it was just later covered - with old paint and rust underneath -with paint that isn't even epoxy primer.) Open type base not enclosed cast iron or sheet metal. Didn't check if the pot metal parts are fine. No tires. Bearings will definitely need replacement (why on the powermatic, the gearbox didn't even had oil after 40 years, turned to black sludge!) Close to "sad b*stard" level of condition that delta.
That bandsaw will be the hobby in itself to be worked on with pullers and bearing separators. Remove paint, rust neutralization, epoxy primer, then color. Procuring the tires and then putting a crown on them. But i think the most critical is the knowhow and time it'll take.
In a way, I get the feeling that i bit more than i can chew and also payed too much considering i have to rebuild the powermatic 143. (Even if mang anghel was a nice guy, It definitely wasn't in running condition!) Yet i know i'll cherish it after it's done and will last beyond me...
I don't think i'll need to buy big tools anymore... but now i know the value of "plug and play" machine condition when buying.
Owyn <-- older and hopefully wiser 🙂
