Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw

I was told the last Hinoki sold late last year was 68K as is where is, it was new old stock without a motor. lasted one week lang daw once displayed... why? bec it was a 24" to 32" model (I am not sure). whatever the case, if I saw it I might have bought it even if it was the 24" one...
btw, 24" is the wheel size :eek::eek::eek:

Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw

I remember the wiki at owwm describing having 3 phase power near you is like having a meteor land in your backyard (lol.) It can happen but no need to cross fingers. (Actually our neighbor's got 3 phase, but then he's cozy with really high ranking government officials.) Industrial parks like the ones in laguna and batangas have 3 phase too. Maybe hospitals.

http://wiki.owwm.com/Default.aspx?Page=Three%20Phase%20Frequently%20Asked%20Questions&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1#D_-_What_is_D_phase_power_and_why_do_manufacturers_like_it_5

So the best option for us are VFDs (locally called as "inverters".) Practical machinist, and owwm recommend them for 5hp and below. Single phase (regular meralco power) comes in and three phase comes out to power the machine. Plus the electronics in the VFD allow one to specify rpm, soft start, and also works as over current protection (no need for expensive magnetic starters!)

About 10K pesos for 1hp as i recall http://www.sulit.com.ph/index.php/classifieds+directory/q/delta+inverter (Cause i need one for the old lathe Grrrrrrrr.)

========
Without motor? Geez. Having bought a 1/2hp baldor for ~6K (3/4hp is 6.3K,) 1hp should be around 10K. And those are just open type (ODP) not TEFC which is ideal for BS's so no dust can come in.

Bearings (specifically the grease in them) lasts about 20 years. Tires prolly will need replacement too.

======

Depending on your area, specially if its a commercial/industrial area, 3 phase line maybe available, but you have to shell our for your own transformer though.

Buildings with elevators would require a 3 phase line.

My office in Chino Roces, Makati has 3 phase line available.

Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.

Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw

For the benefit of those asking, what Owyn meant was:

VFD = Variable Frequency Drive (aka inverter) used to power up a 3-phase motor from a 1-phase source

ODP = Open Drip Proof

TEFC
= Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled

another option

lets start again. what do you intend to do with the bandsaw Bee? kung resaw, skip that item... kung cutting stock like 2" to 4" lang to profiles, skip that item :D. it is important that you know what you need it for. resawing kasi needs a depth of cut of at least 8" to be enjoyable (12" for me and Moji) otherwise it would be a bigger version lang of a scrollsaw.

Re: Where to buy a good Bandsaw

ok i am editing this post of mine.

I said earlier a 6" height is good enough, but come to think of it. a minimum of 8 inch would be much better .

and i am budgeting this purchase to a MAx of 50K only 🙁

if 8" is your requirement lang, you should be able to find Taiwan made bandsaws in T. Alonso. while they have no name brands they do look pretty well built. price should be around the 32K margin +/- 5K...
