Here in our place in Laguna, we have these "manghahasa" stalls. I tried it once and to my surprise, they did really good in sharpening my saw (not back saw though) considering they use what looks to as a grinding wheel motor fitted with some sharpening abrasive.

Hindi file ang gamit nila. Diretso naman ang lagare sa kahoy.

Just for information, is this Back saw also be known as "Kabig" as identified by local woodsmen ?

Well in our area specially in market places, there are shops that sharpens saws, finishing and crosscutting used by carpenters and they use bench grinders fitted with large size thin cutting/abrasive disc, same as mentioned by fourtheboys96.

Perhaps you can try looking for this shop/s around your area.

Thank you for the reply. I'll try to look for those shops. Rosy my back saw is a Stanley used for cutting tenons and doing mitre cuts, it has finer teeth compared to regular saws

This is what our manghahasa looks like in action. The term "manghahasa" is actually a catchy word that rhymes with manggagahasa (rapist)

i don't think it would be a problem having a back saw sharpened by a local manghahasa even if it's teeth are smaller compared to an ordinary cross cut saw. here in south cotobato, the cost of sharpening a normal saw by a manghahasa is only P40 ... cheers

Boo!

I have to ask you first. Where do you live?

To answer your question, there are some manghahasa nearest of your area that can sharpen your backsaw.

I have the same question before. But if your like,I'd like to take care of my own tools. Yes, there is a learning curve involve and it will not happened overnight. However there are a lot of video tutorial out there that will help you how to get started. If you are interested I can point out some tips and video link, I understand if you don't want the challenge. I just want to know if it's a quality backsaw?

Goodluck

In Antipolo City, there are several shops along Felix Street that do this service.
