This Jap Made TOP Kogyo parallel jaw pliers is very convenient to adjust and use. No need to set the screw just move the top jaw for desired grip strength. Although the metal is not as strong the price is very cheap compared to the Bessey equivalent. @ 432 pesos only.

Is there a good way to put jaw coverings so these won't mar wood?

Does the edges of the wood get damaged when you use this type of clamp?

Re: Woodworking Clamps

I use a similar technique

It is easy for a strap piece to mark the workpiece if one isn't careful. I've seen people use corner pads - block of wood quarter circle on the outside and right angle on the inside. I think there are ready-made plastic ones out there.

Re: Woodworking Clamps

here is one clamp that I have always wanted to have for a while now, finally in my shop. it is a T bar clamp, this one made by Showa, Records are available but not the size that I needed. this one is 54" capacity but after measurement, it only can take 53 3/4"...

Re: Woodworking Clamps

the record had a nicer and tighter fit to the T-bar, but this Showa works just fine. the price difference is about 20 to 25% more for the Record. I had to test this first before I acquire several more, seems to be great for laminating duties...

Re: Woodworking Clamps

I saw the Showa but I didn't see the Record. I was with the idea that the Record was 50% more expensive. I could be wrong as I did not check the prices carefully. The T-Bar of the Showa looks and feels very sturdy. I did see the jaw play you mentioned. Will this affect the clamp performance?

Re: Woodworking Clamps

initially I thought it might, but after trying it, I don't see a reason why it would. seems like a very solid clamp for the money. I really loved it when I first saw it and not that I got one, I look forward to several more... :p

Re: Woodworking Clamps

Probably it's the material of the jaw that makes the Record more expensive. The Jaw lock is a breakable part as I have experienced with CI C-clamps at high clamping pressures. Are the Record jaws forged?

Re: Woodworking Clamps

both are cast iron built, seems very much the same but only time can tell. so far, the wood I clamped was tightened as much as my arm can push...

Re: Woodworking Clamps

That's good to hear. These will be a good alternative to pipe clamps. Is Showa Taiwanese?

Loius, for the 54" it is in the 1.5K range, just a tad lower.
not sure Jay if it is Taiwanese, will ask later...
