Morris chair are one of my dream projects, from arts and crafts, known for it's straight lines and solid build. Simple design, wide slats, square legs and sturdy looking constructions are some of the many characteristics of this morris chair.

the design is very traditional, old fashion so to speak, but the impressions is infinite. that's what inspire me to build this chair. making a workbench is a big challenge, but doing a morris chair is a different story, different challenge. gustav stickley ones said " the lyf so short, the craft so long to lerne" .

with it's construction it seems you'll be thinking of the durability and how it will serve you well (hangang sa ka-apo apohan).it is straightforward, should have made a bowed arm (courtesy of gregory paolini) but with limited tools, i end up on a straight arm.

the i used is YAKAL, i bought it at wilcon balintawak, and yes the wood is way way too heavy than the tanguile variety, the heaviest i've worked so far ( don't know pa the weight of narra).i've learned many lessons on wood choices during my previous project, so this time, i'm hoping i'm right in choosing yakal, choosing the best, the straightest is i thought what i did.

here's some pics of the wood, bought it one by one, because of the limited space of the car (walang pick-up truck). but then again, because of the excitement, no matter what, my goal is to bring a good wood for my project

another reason for building this chair is for a replacementof our La-Z-boy-look-alike chair, with slowly deteriorating upholstery, and a gift to SWMBO on her b-day.hope you enjoy watching this build.

Re: MORRIS CHAIR, building a classic.

limited mortising depth of the jig (because of the bits available) pass it with a pattern bit to get the desired depth.

he he he, sinabi mo pa...

before they sell oak,and they have a big pile of it,which i thought is a perfect wood for morris chair. but nobody is buying the oak, till they get cupped and warped, eventually they discarded it.until such time i saw these yakal, i guess these are a good wood for a project, to tell you, i'm a newbie on choosing wood, just learning from the previous projects. gusto ko ngang bilin lahat yung yakal kaso hindi kakasya sa sasakyan ko...:p

i got the 2x6x8 at 1.6k
1x6x8 at 800 php
